GREMSAS presents its projects at EspaiCiència at the Saló de l’Ensenyament

Professionals from the Multidisciplinary Research Group on Health and Society presented studies on retinography and wounds as markers of vascular risk and predictors of healing, respectively, within the framework of the Saló de l'Ensenyament

GREMSAS SALO ENSENYAMENT

Researchers from the North Metropolitan Research Support Unit, Mercè Iruela and Rafael Medrano, participated on March 13 at EspaiCiència, at the Saló de l’Ensenyament, representing the GREMSAS research group, showcasing the research project "Effectiveness of infrared thermometry in detecting areas of inflammation susceptible to the development of ulcers or lesions on the feet of patients with diabetes." This interdisciplinary group, IDIAPJGol - UAB, has presented innovative research in the field of preventive medicine and public health.

EspaiCiència is an initiative to make research and innovation carried out at universities and research centers known to the public, especially to the youngest.

For two days, GREMSAS professionals shared their findings with event attendees through participatory workshops. On Wednesday the 13th, the team composed of Antonio Heras Tébar, Rosa García-Sierra, and Pere Torán Monserrat presented their research on retinography as a marker of vascular risk. Students had the opportunity to examine retinal images, measure the ankle-brachial index, and receive a detailed explanation about the cardiovascular system.

On Friday the 15th, Mercè Iruela Sánchez, Rafael Medrano, and Rosa García-Sierra highlighted their study on wound healing prediction. They introduced participants to a grid designed to mark coordinates on wounds, allowing the measurement of different temperature points as indicators of healing. Students were able to observe the process of designing and creating the grid, collect data with thermometers, and examine heat zones using a thermography camera.

Their participation in EspaiCiència reaffirms their position as leaders in the field of preventive medicine and public health, leaving a significant mark on the event.
